Two Easy Steps to Describing Your Band for Greater Web Traffic and More Fans (Part II) By Marc Gunn It continues to boggle my mind how many bands don't take the time to come up with a decent description of their music. It's extremely important, and when you're marketing yourself online, it's essential. So grab some paper, we're gonna create two simple band descriptions that will help you earn you web traffic and help you with all aspects of your music promotion. Whether you're looking to promote your band to someone in an elevator, on the phone or submitting to a directory, these two descriptions will serve you well. Your Band in 500 Characters Or Less I publish the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine, and I can't tell you how difficult it is sometimes to find out Exactly what bands are all about. I have to search through the site, read the biography, etc. That's fine, but I don't have the time. I'm a musician first and foremost. So it's always impresses me when I can go to a band's homepage and find out who they are in 500 characters or less. If you can describe your band in about five hundred characters you are a head above the rest. That's really all you need to describe your music, talk up your band, and offer a benefit for exploring the site further. Post that info on your homepage and not only does it make it easier for the media and fans to learn more about, but there are other music promotion advantages. You see, many websites, like mine, use scripts like the one offered by Gossamer to easily compile links on their website. Gossamer Links gives you 500 characters to describe your music. You can copy and paste that info straight from your homepage. Do you promote your music on webrings? Webring.org gives you room to describe your site in just 400 characters. A little trimming and you're ready to submit. There are numerous opportunities for you to submit up to 500 character descriptions of your band. Yes, you could just submit an Elevator Description, but any good copywriters will tell you that more text is better. You see, your job is to convince people visit your website. Then it's your website's job to sell them on your band. But the first step is to get them there. And short descriptions usually are not interesting enough to compel visitors to look further. Just visit the Best Band Music Award links. What use is it to put your band name with a description that says "great music". So?! Who cares!?! There's an additional benefit to having a good, long descriptions on your homepage--search engines. Search engines love text content. And if the first words on your site are "Enter Site", you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. Describe your music in your first paragraph, and search engines will add those keywords to their search algorithms so that your site will rank higher for "hardcore metal" than someone else's "enter here." I designed the Brobdingnagian Bards paragraph to include pertinent information about our musical style, to offer benefits for the band, and to do well in search engines. "The Brobdingnagian Bards are The Original Celtic Renaissance music group from Austin, Texas offering free Celtic mp3 downloads. They perform a unique style of music combining Scottish and Irish folk songs with music inspired by the Lord of the Rings, performed on non-traditional instruments--autoharp, recorder, and mandolin. In just five years, they've completed six studio albums and performed coast-to-coast. Ask their fans, and they'll tell you The Bards are just plain 'fun!' Which makes sense since, after all, they just love the music." This description tells the casual visitor exactly what kind of music we perform. They see a benefit (free mp3s, and 'fun' music) and even mentions a few accomplishments. This concise description has helped make my band one of the top 20 bands searching for 'celtic music.' The point is if you really want to gather any interest, you need to learn how to describe your band quickly. So create your description and email me. I'll be happy to review it for ye.

Now, that's speaking up! By James Curt Byrum
Now that the seasons are changing, and the days are growing colder (at least for those not living near the equator); perhaps... instead of spending time under covers watching television, may be better put to use connecting to others. Writing or emailing that long overdue letter to family, friends, institutions and leadership is an important part of spreading goodwill, sharing your truth and closing loose ends. The input you may receive in response, may just surprise you. Even a simple phone call may change a destiny. I know this from experience. Five years ago I called an old girlfriend from high school whom I had not spoken to in 16 years. Little did I know then that she now is my closest confidant and best friend. What would life be like if I hadn't the courage to call her? I pray this month that Jah would stir your hearts to accomplish a mighty thing in the world around you. Start a debate, encourage an old friend, lift someone's spirit, or protest hypocrisy in government. Affect someone, somewhere. Speak up! Talking about speaking up... Retired U.S. Army General William Olden said, "The invasion of Iraq was the greatest strategic disaster in United States history." He further went on to state on record that these actions alienated America's Middle East Allies, making it harder to prosecute actual terrorist. He called for the government to withdraw from Iraq and focus on actually capturing Osama Bin Laden near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Now, that's speaking up! Passionately Peaceful, Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer James Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. In addition to being a writer, he is a Respiratory Therapist residing in California. James also has a passion for music of all genres, writes experimental music and is a poet/lyricist. Caribbean Pearl Secret, Margarita Island Margarita Island is one of the lesser known Caribbean islands. It is unspoiled by commercialization but not that far behind. When I first read information about Margarita I was very surprised to know that it was part of Venezuela. Sure everyone has heard about Caracas, Venezuela but not much is known about la isla. Of course you know now-a-days it's not that difficult to find out more details on just about anything, thanks to the Internet. Island tours, excursions, duty free shopping... why you can even come to this island and swim with the dolphins. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I will be the first to admit that I thought I was just coming to a third world country. But Margarita seems to be so much more than that. I believe it is due to its being an Island and most importantly because of the people that live there. These days around the island the common folk living around here besides the locals seem to be Americans, Chinese, Arabs, Colombians, Brazilians, Canadians and even people from the UK. At any given time in town you meet tourists or even locals that are Americans or that of another nationality. There is no partiality here. Margariteños are very friendly people and understand that this beautiful island of theirs has the potential to boom in the tourism industry. The fact that more people are coming to live here is just a part of the 'boom' and has been for sometime now. Back six years ago before I moved here there was not as near as much info on the web as there is now. Now you can find out more before you arrive for vacation on the island. You can come to Margarita and go scuba diving, visit Mangroves and go on a boat tour in La Restinga National Park, Museo Marino of Boca del Rio (Museum), book a tour to the world's famous Angels Falls or come and swim with the dolphins. Margarita's Sambil was built in 2001 and right next door is a smaller amusement park called Diverland. Señor Frogs Discotheque/Restaurant for night entertainment plus many more excellent dining locations for you to try. Margarita Hilton Casino is the largest on the island and you may also want to come and golf at Hesperia Isla Margarita Hotel, 18-hole course, par 70 with a direct sea view from the entire course. No matter what your choices are when you decide to come to Margarita you simply will not be disappointed. The Dunes Resort is the largest one on the island and is simply breathtaking and a class of its own. Second to the Dunes is also the famous Margarita Hilton Hotel and Casino. What about the beaches you ask ....well we have Playa el Agua is the most popular beach and is always filled with tourists and El Yaque is perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Margarita Island is simply the Caribbean's pearl ....
Still wanting more information please visit www.margaritaislandvacation.info for photos, travel tips and articles. My name is Marsha Fernandez, I moved to Margarita Island from the U.S. Orlando, Fla. 6 years ago and since then I have ventured into Travel and Tourism on the Web to help promote this beautiful Island. I enjoy being able to share what I get to have 365 days a year... life on this Island. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com. |
