REST AND REJUVENATION IN NEGRIL

Makeda also is working on a Rest and Rejuvenation Center in Negril, Jamaica working with people with land in the West End area. The center will feature health and well-being seminars, yoga,  raw food, Qui Gong and more.  As Makeda notes, "It is really important to come out of Babylon and rejuvenate, and to get rid of stress. No matter what type of diet you have and what type of vitamins you take all the stress we are under has a greater impact on us. Our Qui Gong and Tai Chi teacher,  Master Chang will do internal exercises with us although many of us exercise the outside  of the body, but very few of us exercise the inside of the body."

The facility will be reasonably priced with accommodations that include camping and dorm type options.  A full time security crew will insure that time spent is clear of any pitfalls.

And as for the mix of  wellness and the world's capital of reggae music, this offers a way to give back to Jamaica.  As Makeda explains, "This type of activity in Jamaica actually vitalizes reggae music.  It is important to give  back to the island that needs our resources.  The Rest and Rejuvenation center will provide employment and resources for Jamaica's economy."

This center will provide support for the GIVE A HUG children's foundation which was founded in January of 2005 after Makeda visited the Our Lady of Hope Children's Home in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica

Sizzla Kalonji: The Overstanding

Sizzla Kalonji's most highly anticipated album, The Overstanding, is now available.

This is the fruit of an association between hip-hop impresario Damon Dash and Kalonji, one of the firstartists to be signed to Damon's label Damon Dash Music Group (DDMG).

Emerging in the latter half of the 90's, Sizzla quickly became one of the leaders in the modern dancehall movement. The success of Praise Ye Jah in 1997, secured a strong following which placed him at the top as one of Reggae's great artist. He released Black Woman, & Child that same year, and the self-titled single become a reggae anthem, lasting almost one decade. It was within this era that he helped lead dancehall back to the musical and spiritual influences of roots reggae, favoring organic productions with heavy Rastafarian teachings, philosophies, and the Back To Africa Movement (Repatriation).

Sizzla has released over 40 albums which include a string of other very successful singles, crossing different genres in Reggae Music. In 1999, Be I Strong was released and Bobo Shanti in 2001, which was spiritually driven and had strong hip hop influence, and in 2002 Da Real Thing was definitely the Reggae album of the year, showing a more softer, mellow, and romantic material.

The Overstanding is a prolific, iritical, meditative and melodic album. The production is a collaboration of genius within the Reggae and Hip Hop industry that have delivered music of great quality and beautiful international sounds. The topics of the album range from issues of love, education, overcoming poverty, teaching values, and life in general. Sizzla is one of the world's most respected figures in dancehall reggae and continues to bless the world with musical masterpieces albums after albums.

MICHAEL ST. GEORGE - THE DUB POETIC EDU-TAINER

Definitely Toronto's hardest working dub poet. The supremely talented writer has a commanding voice and a charismatic stage presence that few can match - Word Magazine, 2003

Michael St. George is a writer, performer and educator. His conscious verse and fresh musical sound has earned him industry awards and peer recognition both nationally and internationally.

Inspired by his working class upbringing, St. George's work is dedicated to justice and social equity. As a second-generation dub poet, he has continued to remain true to the ideals of the form. His message is thought provoking, positive, spiritual, and seeking to incite change, while his sound follows the traditional dub poetry approach with a twist” the uncompromising, syncopated, hard-driving baselines and melodic forms infused with other influences such as ska, rhythm & blues, and jazz.

Born in Portland, Jamaica, Michael St. George grew-up in August Town.  His latest album, Dubbin' de Vibes continues to give a voice to what he calls, 'Those who have struggled and those struggling to find the basic needs to survive'. It raises questions about modern life and urges responsibility for the current state of our world.

In addition to his musical recordings, he also published Night Spin, a book of poetry in 2001 that takes the reader on a journey through the night as seen through the introspective eyes of the author.

St. George pushes the boundaries of both song and poetry, carefully crafting his concern and advocacy for the marginalized and the oppressed through the art of wordpower and the cadence of the reggae beat. With this spirited mix of words, music, and movement Michael St. George continues to prove again and again, his relevance as an important recording and spoken word artists in the cultural and music scene today.

St. George also brings this philosophy to his role as an educator. He regularly conducts workshops and performs for students of all ages. This expansion into the world of education is a natural one for St. George, providing the opportunity to engage children and young adults in a dialogue of social issues. It also firmly attests to his ability to bridge generation gaps, something that many artists attempt, but very few succeed in doing.

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Editor's note:

Last week we took the week off for some holiday movements ....but here is a wonderful reminder written by James Curt Byrum from a past issue of the e-guide, about what we all have to "Give Thanks" for in our daily lives.

Blessed Love, Justine "Justone" Ketola

Gratitude
By James Curt Byrum
So often when we pray we are asking for something - for ourselves or the world in general. While this is fine and necessary, we must not forget to be thankful.
This month I was reminded of this after watching Oprah Winfrey's 20th Anniversary Show. She told so many stories of just how important it is to be grateful - especially when times are tough. When we consider the things we are truly thankful for it helps us be aware of how precious life really is.
So this month I would ask you to join me in keeping a journal of things that you are grateful for. My list starts something like this...
My children ages 12 and 14... they have given me so many loving memories.
Live music... something about capturing the essence of frequency and energy in a moment.
Good friends... the ones who stick by - no matter the course.
Shelter... I have been homeless in the past and am ever so thankful to have a roof over my head.
Good food... it nourishes our bodies and our minds, it also makes us feel better. Thank those who prepare it!
I am thankful for all these things and much more.
I have found that "finding the good" is the only survival technique that really works! Have fun considering all that you have gratitude for.
Thank you for reading this,
James
Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer James Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. ABOUT REGGAE FESTIVAL E-GUIDE

The weekly E-Guide is a wonderful resource for those who live, love and enjoy reggae and its vibrant culture. It encompasses the food, music and spirituality that define the unique and diverse community. You can expect CD releases and industry news, band tours, Caribbean recipes and travel, inspirational pieces, reggae trivia and of course, upcoming reggae festivals.

For years, the Reggae Festival Guide Magazine received numerous requests for updates on festivals via email, and on May 2, 2004, the webmaster of ReggaeFestivalGuide.com, Kristine Cummins partnered with the magazine (RBA Publishing), and published the first emailed issue of the E-Guide E-Newsletter. Within a few months, the E-Guide went from less than 100 to over 2500 subscribers! [Click here for amount of current subscribers]. In May of 2005, we upgraded the appearance to full color and now, a year later, we're back to free subscriptions and proud to announce our new Editor, Justine Ketola. Click here to email Justine.

In September, 2006 Peter Fleming of bandVillage began to produce the eguide.
