Dawuni, who's based both in LA and his native Ghana, West Africa, joined together with producer and photographer Cary Sullivan to create Afro Funke', bringing on board resident DJ and partner DJ Jeremy Sole's Musaics to round out the perfect mix.

Each week Afro Funke' presents an diverse, vibrant mélange of guest DJs, live concert performances, dancers, rare films, record release parties, fundraisers, art installations, crafts and more at the gorgeous Zanzibar in Santa Monica. Afro "Funksters" flock to hear Sole spin his unique Musaics - sound collage-blends of afro beat, dub reggae, hip hop, jazz/funk and remixed world beats; pieced together with tribal breaks, and uplifted by dubbed-out turntable manipulation and live instrumentation. Afro Funke's profile has been greatly enhanced by its unique photo-based flyers which feature Cary Sullivan's cutting edge photographs of West African life.

Darfur Genocide Article 3 of 3:
Islamic Khartoum Squeezing Journalism Out of Sudan
By Curt Byrum

For the past couple of weeks I've been focusing on the crisis in Sudan (Extreme Abuses in the 21st Century) and (Miracle of Change), which is on the level of the atrocities the Nazis committed against the Jews in World War II. It's a subject that can not be written about once. It is imperative for this crisis to be exposed. For light to enter this dark place and reveal the horrific truth of the evil deeds long hidden in the fundamental shadow lands of idealism and greed.

To eliminate a race of people

This is the simple, yet diabolical goal of the Janjaweed and the Islamic Khartoum in Sudan; the systematic genocide of Sudanese men, women, and children for use of land and resources.

The latest news is that the Khartoum is actively restricting journalists to travel to and report from Darfur. And even more alarming is the attitude of the U.N. ...

The calculations by Khartoum's National Islamic Front regime are obvious: many U.N. and Western political officials, especially within the Bush administration, are visibly eager to declare a "victory" for diplomacy in Abuja..." -E. Reeves

As I've done research, I stumbled upon an electronically published analytic briefs and advocacy writings on Sudan by Eric Reeves who has spent the past seven years working full-time as a Sudan researcher and analyst, publishing extensively both in the U.S. and internationally. His writings take you to Sudan and give you a clear picture of what is going on there. I highly recommend visiting his poignant and professional website, www.SudanReeves.org.

If we are to prosper as humans on this Earth we will need to surrender our vain ambitions and seek equal rights for all people sharing the planet. Otherwise, how will we look into the eyes of these forgotten souls? We must pray for the light of love to shine down upon them and expose this secretive inhumanity.

Blessings,
Curt

ABOUT REGGAE FESTIVAL E-GUIDE

The weekly E-Guide is a wonderful resource for those who live, love and enjoy reggae and its vibrant culture. It encompasses the food, music and spirituality that define the unique and diverse community. You can expect CD releases and industry news, band tours, Caribbean recipes and travel, inspirational pieces, reggae trivia and of course, upcoming reggae festivals.

For years, the Reggae Festival Guide Magazine received numerous requests for updates on festivals via email, and on May 2, 2004, the webmaster of ReggaeFestivalGuide.com, Kristine Cummins partnered with the magazine (RBA Publishing), and published the first emailed issue of the E-Guide E-Newsletter. Within a few months, the E-Guide went from less than 100 to over 2500 subscribers! [Click here for amount of current subscribers]. In May of 2005, we upgraded the appearance to full color and now, a year later, we're back to free subscriptions and proud to announce our new Editor, Justine Ketola. You may email her at editorreggaefestivalEguide.com.
