Junior Reid first won the hearts of people around the world as the lead vocalist for Black Uhuru. He has matured and gained strength as an artist performing solo and has worked to produce other artists at his One Blood recording studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Junior Reid is a top festival performer with compelling showmanship and melodic phrasing. JR is truly a man of the people, consistently in demand.

Also on the lineup are Wada and Andrew Blood, the sons of Junior Reid who deliver modern singjay style conscious anthems, trading verses and moving as a unit on stage with confidence and precision.

J.R. has a new CD called CLEAN UP YOUR HEART, which is soon to be released. He has recently toured Japan, South America, and the Eastern U.S.

Several of Reid's hits such as "One Blood", "Mashing Up the Earth" and "Fit You Haffi Fit" have risen to anthem status.

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Reggae Festival E-Guide
Frankie 1987-2006
Lovin', is what we've got!
By Curt Byrum

Last Sunday evening I attended a funeral for a young man who had died ten days earlier. Frankie was nineteen when he died. He was an avid acoustic guitar player who could always be found in front of the local grocery store strumming tunes from the band, SUBLIME.

Frankie hardly ever drank alcohol, but he was riding in a car with someone who had been drinking and paid the ultimate price for his decision. According to Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD), alcohol-related fatalities among teens account for thirty-six percent of all fatalities of people that age. While overall teen drunk driving has decreased three percent over the last few years, the general population of people driving while intoxicated has risen. Around forty percent of people who die in car crashes are alcohol-related.

As a father myself attending the funeral with my son on Father's Day, I thought of how hard it must be for Frankie's father to accept this tragedy. At the memorial he used the opportunity to remind the teenagers of the importance of sober driving. Especially in this season of gathering and celebration we must be aware and designate a sober driver.

I pray that everyone would have a great time attending festivals and make it home safe and sound, and remember... * "Lovin', is what we've got!"

Blessings,
Curt

* Sublime tune, "What I Got"; Sublime lyric, "lovin', is what i got, i got, i got".

"Blending a love of dance-hall and rock-steady reggae rhythms with an aggressive punk ethic, SUBLIME spread its garage hall gospel all across America, creating a rabid, grass-roots following everywhere they went, especially in the surf/skate/snowboard communities."

Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. In addition to being a writer, he is a Respiratory Therapist residing in California. Curt also has a passion for music of all genres, writes experimental music and is a poet/lyricist. ABOUT REGGAE FESTIVAL E-GUIDE

The weekly E-Guide is a wonderful resource for those who live, love and enjoy reggae and its vibrant culture. It encompasses the food, music and spirituality that define the unique and diverse community. You can expect CD releases and industry news, band tours, Caribbean recipes and travel, inspirational pieces, reggae trivia and of course, upcoming reggae festivals.

For years, the Reggae Festival Guide Magazine received numerous requests for updates on festivals via email, and on May 2, 2004, the webmaster of ReggaeFestivalGuide.com, Kristine Cummins partnered with the magazine (RBA Publishing), and published the first emailed issue of the E-Guide E-Newsletter. Within a few months, the E-Guide went from less than 100 to over 2500 subscribers! [Click here for amount of current subscribers]. In May of 2005, we upgraded the appearance to full color and now, a year later, we're back to free subscriptions and proud to announce our new Editor, Justine Ketola. You may email her at editorreggaefestivalEguide.com.
