Rocky Dawuni
Special Guest Performance on Showtime's "Weeds"
August 21st

Ghanaian Afro-Roots Star Rocky Dawuni continues to raise his international profile with a distinctive appearance on Showtime's smash hit series "Weeds" performing "Jammin Nation" in episode 2 of the Emmy winning show's 2nd season. Also featured in the same episode is Dawuni's "Jah Be With Us."

"When we were looking for a song to play over 'Weeds'' Mohasky Cup marijuana convention, Rocky Dawuni's "Jammin' Nation" fit the bill exactly. The energy and the lyrics were perfect for this sequence. Rocky and the band came on the set and kept our whole crew jammin' all day long." "Mark Burley, Producer, "Weeds"

Rocky Dawuni is one of West Africa's most popular musicians. Dawuni is currently blazing new paths with his genre-bending CD "Book of Changes," a progressive fusion of Reggae, Afro Beat, traditional African sounds, and Hip Hop neo-griotism.

Dawuni's live performances have often been called legendary and his popularity spans the globe, making him a favorite with fans from the U.S. down to Africa. Rocky was invited to be the musical personality for the 2005 Reebok Humanitarian Awards where he was joined in song by Peter Gabriel and he also shared the mic with none other than Stevie Wonder at a recent sold-out concert appearance at his Los Angeles club, Afro Funké. No stranger to TV, two tracks from "Book of Changes" set the tone as NBC's "ER" traveled to Africa and the show also highlighted Rocky's rendition of "Knockin on Heaven's Door" to massive response.

Sonicbids and Reggae Festival Guide

The Reggae Festival Guide and Sonicbids are proud to announce a new program called "Reggae Artists on the Rise". We will be selecting at least one Sonicbids reggae artist per month for review in our weekly e-guide.

We will also be selecting from the pool of monthly winners, a grand prize winner who at the end of the year will receive a free FULL PAGE article/feature in the 2007 Reggae Festival Guide magazine. For more information or to submit your Sonicbids EPK visit www.sonicbids.com/reggaefestivalguide

Sonicbids was launched in 2001 on a simple idea: that it should be easy for artists and music promoters to find each other online, without sending bulky press kits through the postal mail.

Since then, Sonicbids has become one of the fastest-growing music communities on the web, trusted by over 70,000 artists and over 6,000 festivals, music conferences, and clubs from over 100 countries.

The first "Reggae Artists on the Rise" will be featured in next week's Reggae Festival E-guide.

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Blessed be the Children
By Curt Byrum

When Israel began to evacuate Palestine last year, I asked you to pray for peace. It was obviously a sketchy situation. Since then, it appears that the motive behind removal of Israelis was to get it's citizens out of the missile target zone. Hezzbollah has since been elected to high office in Palestine and began firing missiles at Israel. Sadly, Lebanon has been the country to suffer most for the ignorance and hatred existing in this area. With over five hundred dead and eight hundred thousand displaced by war. Right now, both countries are under a UN sanctioned cease fire resolution. I pray this will quell the violence. I also would like you to pray for the safety of UN peacekeepers stationed in Southern Lebanon.

Consider the following.

Since hatred is a learned behavior, maybe we should consider removing the children from this environment. The world could adopt them and teach them how to love, thus, breaking the cycle of violence. Idealistic and absurd as this may sound, think about it. If they are truly brainwashed into hatred, then it seems plausible that the greatest tragedy under the eyes of Jah are the crimes committed against children. In the ancient writings: It was believed that the judgment of God was based on how a society treated the children and widows. If God judged humanity today on our treatment of children and elderly, how would we be judged? Statistically, Elder and Child abuse is on the rise. Ninety-five percent of all people placed in a nursing home never receive a visitor. One of Five children worldwide are starving. The list goes on and on.

I will end with this story.

Parents during the time of Jesus brought their children to him to have him bless them, but the disciples objected. This displeased him, so he said to them, "Let the children come to me. Do not stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them" Then he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

Blessed be the children.

James

Until then, much love and respect,
James Curt

ABOUT REGGAE FESTIVAL E-GUIDE

The weekly E-Guide is a wonderful resource for those who live, love and enjoy reggae and its vibrant culture. It encompasses the food, music and spirituality that define the unique and diverse community. You can expect CD releases and industry news, band tours, Caribbean recipes and travel, inspirational pieces, reggae trivia and of course, upcoming reggae festivals.

For years, the Reggae Festival Guide Magazine received numerous requests for updates on festivals via email, and on May 2, 2004, the webmaster of ReggaeFestivalGuide.com, Kristine Cummins partnered with the magazine (RBA Publishing), and published the first emailed issue of the E-Guide E-Newsletter. Within a few months, the E-Guide went from less than 100 to over 2500 subscribers! [Click here for amount of current subscribers]. In May of 2005, we upgraded the appearance to full color and now, a year later, we're back to free subscriptions and proud to announce our new Editor, Justine Ketola. Click here to email Justine.
