NEWS FLASH

Benefit Shows with Pato Banton
Backed by Sol Horizon

Pato Banton

Pato Banton is undoubtedly the reggae star for this generation. His career to date has seen a stream of chart-topping hits worldwide and his unique talent has already attracted mega artists such as Sting, Aswad and UB40 who have been featured on his albums. Born and raised in Birmingham, England (where he still resides), Pato was introduced to music as an MC in his stepfather's traveling reggae disco sound-system act. At a very young age, he was already mixing records and "toasting" (fast Jamaican rapping to a heavy beat.) While establishing a strong, local following and reputation, he caught the ear of the English Beat's Ranking Roger, who took young Pato under his wing and pushed him into becoming a musical performer in his own right and expanding his sights beyond Birmingham. It paid off.

With the release of his first two albums - "Never Give In" and "Vision Of the World", Pato's status began to blossom around the world. Two Subsequent studio records, "Universal Love" and "Wize Up" combined with constant touring firmly entrenched him as a musical force to be reckoned with. Although Pato has always had major success in the United States (album Sales and touring), he is a bona fide megastar in Europe and South America, selling over 3,000,000 albums and headline stadium tours. His fifth studio album "Stay Positive" spurred the Top 5 UK single, "Groovin'."

Now bringing you up to date after a well deserved break to write a new album plus a change in management and record company, Pato Banton is back and ready to hit the airwaves with the latest release "Time Come" which is an album full of top-quality music for all to enjoy. The title track is there to tell the world that he is back and his time has come to gain the rewards and recognition for all the year of touring and work he has put into the music business.

For three years now, Sol Horizon has been captivating Northern California audiences with their dynamic and irresistible performances of original, reggae-influenced dance music. The band's socially conscious lyrics, acrobatic guitar playing, modern electronica, and infectious rhythms have inspired a diverse following in their native Sonoma County.

Sol Horizon's support for community building, sustainable living and political awareness has resulted in numerous invitations to headline local fundraisers for organizations such as Planting Earth Activation, the Mattole Watershed Group, Willow Wood Waldorf School and the Youth Activism Convergence. In June of 2002, Sol Horizon performed at the Health & Harmony Festival where the Mayor of Sebastopol declared them "Sebastopol's Official Reggae Band." The following year, 2003, they were invited back to play on Health & Harmony's Main stage and have been rising steadily ever since.

These concerts are in support of Rogelio Johnson, aka Jahson, a longtime supporter, percussionist, and crew of many Bay Area and international reggae, blues, funk and soul bands and musicians for the past 25 years.

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Grace to Adjust to Nature's Will
James Curt Byrum Grace to Adjust to Nature's Will

As a result of Hurricane Katrina in the southern states of the U.S., thousands have been evacuated from homes and businesses. While it is important to pray for the safety of these people, it is also an important reminder of nature's awesome power.

I thought about the act of evacuation and pondered what I would take, where I would go, who I would I take with me, etc. Taking some time to think about this places distinct value on what you consider sacred.

Set aside some time this week to pray for those affected by this hurricane, contemplate on what you would do if you were in this circumstance, and grace to adjust to Mother Nature's will if and/or when we are asked to in the future!

Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer James Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. REGGAE BIZ MARKETING
Making the Sale When the Customer Won't Buy
By Kara Kelso

Ever had a party online or offline, and had guests say "I love that item, but I can't afford it right now", or "It's so hard to decide, I want all of this!". This is a perfect time to sell all those items to your customer without them having to pay a dime.

If you aren't using this idea already, make sure to put it into action immediately. Have a gift registry form ready to point those customers to should they want extra items they simply can not buy right now. What they do is fill out their information, special dates (Birthdays, Anniversary, etc), and the products they want. Then, they fill out names and contact information of relatives and friends they know they will be receiving gifts from. You contact the relatives, stating where you received their information and what's on the wish list you hold. Ask them if they would like a reminder before the special date, and which item they will be purchasing.

Simple eh? It's a win-win situation for everyone! You make the extra sale, the gift-giver knows they are buying a gift the other person wants (no guess work or wandering around a mall!), and the one receiving the gift is getting exactly what they wanted but couldn't afford.

This idea works easily both online and offline. Keep several forms handy if you are offline, so you can pass them out at parties or events (Pre-made forms available with the Direct Sales Success Kit). Online you will want to set up a page with an automatic form for your guest to fill out. For an example of an online form, visit: http://www.soy-wax-candles.com/gift-registry.html
