Dub Station and Abijah West Coast Tour

KRucial Reggae has organized a tour featuring Jamaican sensation Abijah with Dub Station, Tom O'Brien and Jus Goodie. Abijah grew up steeped in the Jamaican music scene in Kingston. His father Winston Smith was a folk musician and African drummer who co-founded the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari.

While Jamaican and Reggae music are central to his records, Abijah's sound is expansive. He incorporates world beat, jazz and rock into his reggae riddims. Abijah's single "Revelation", reflected this inclusiveness and was a #1 hit in Jamaica for VP Records. Abijah also develops his sound by working not only as a musician, but also as a producer for the likes of Dean Frasier and Glen Browne.

Concert goers will be privy to Abijah's long-awaited second album, Swept Away. A pre-release of Swept Away will be available exclusively on the tour and via Reggae4i.com. The album features duets with Tevin Campbell and Beenie Man.

Opening for Abijah will be Dub Station. Dub Station encompasses R&B and hip-hop without losing any integrity of the reggae grove. KRucial's studio band of more than a dozen years, Dub Station will also back Abijah and KRucial artist Tom O'Brien. Dub Station are to KRucial what The Skatalites were to Studio One- the house band. Dub Station's release in 2003, Forward Ever, was a Top 40 album on CMJ's World/Reggae Chart.

Also performing is singer/songwriter Tom O'Brien. O'Brien is out to support his latest release Now and Then, produced by KRucial Reggae. Tom's style is a good compliment to the tour, with accessible Heptones meeting Richie Havens, and a twist of modern rock flavor. Dub Station will back O'Brien on stage as they did on his new album.

His set will also feature Jus Goodie on guitar and vocals. An accomplished artist in his own right, Jus Goodie is the newest member of Dub Station and recently toured with Sugar Minott.

Reggae Festival E-Guide

Original Freedom Fighter Peter Tosh Lives On

Peter Tosh was born Winston Hubert McIntosh October 19, 1944 in Bluefields, Westmoreland, Jamaica.

Peter Tosh met Bob Marley in Trenchtown, and became one of the three original Wailers. A strong-willed man, Tosh withdrew from the Wailers in 1974 after Chris Blackwell refused to issue his first solo album. Songs like "Get Up, Stand Up" written and performed by Tosh with the Wailers have become favorites in the world of reggae.

He released a series of singles on his own Intel-Diplo record label. He performed and toured solo with the likes of Santa Davis, George Fullwood, Tony Chin, Chinna Smith, Sly & Robbie, Mikey Chung, Donald Kinsey, Keith Sterling, Robbie Lyn, Dean Fraser and many more of Jamaica's great musicians.

Tosh began recording under the name Peter Tosh, and released his solo debut, Legalize It, in 1976 on CBS Records. The title track soon became an anthem for the marijuana movement and was a favorite at Tosh's concerts. As Marley preached his "One Love" message, Tosh railed against the hypocritical "shitstem," and became a favorite target of the Jamaican police receiving severe beatings on several occasions. Always taking the militant approach, he released Equal Rights in 1977. His lyric "I don't want no peace, I want equal rights and justice!" would become a rallying cry for the world's downtrodden masses.

Bush Doctor (1978), Mystic Man (1979), and Wanted: Dread and Alive followed, all released on EMI Records, home to the Rolling Stones, which released these albums on their Rolling Stones label imprint.

The Rolling Stones recorded "Don't Look Back" with Peter Tosh, performing it with him on the TV program Saturday Night Live.

After the release of 1983's Mama Africa, Tosh went into self-imposed exile, seeking the spiritual advice of traditional medicine men in Africa, and trying to free himself from recording agreements that distributed his records in South Africa.

He was awarded the Grammy for Best Reggae Performance in 1987 for "No Nuclear War". Tosh was in the beginning of an entire restructuring of his career when, shortly after the release of his 1987 album, No Nuclear War, he was murdered in his home during a burglary. He died on September 11, 1987. Only one of the three killers was caught.

In 1992 the documentary film Stepping Razor Red X was released which chronicles the details behind this artist's message with interviews and narration with Tosh himself, rare concert footage and information on the unanswered questions surrounding his untimely passing.

The Peter Tosh Memorial Park is located at his birthplace Belmont, in the vicinity of Bluefields, Jamaica. The mausoleum is located there along with a library and museum.

SANTA CRUZ ONE LOVE EVENT A HUGE SUCCESS!

The Gathering of the Peacemakers

On Labor Day, Sept. 4 2006, over thirty peacemakers - teachers of love - gathered on stage in San Lorenzo Park in Santa Cruz, California to invite the audience of approximately 700-1000 people to join them in teaching love in their lives. In addition, the message was brought to tens of thousand through our 4 extensive interviews on KZSC and articles in both the Santa Cruz Sentinel and the Good Times. We also gave everyone a free copy of the Iroquois Peacemaker epic - the true story of how The Peacemaker with a few others brought peace to the centuries-old blood feud between the five Iroquois tribes. His journey is a guide to us all. In addition to all the people listed on the flyer who spoke and/or performed on stage, we would like to thank Blue Thunder, the Shoshone wisdom keeper, for speaking, Karen Blades and V for stage management, Paul West for PR, Heather Wakefield, Liana Benning, Virginia Wenzel and Shasta, the artists from the Harmony Festival, for the brilliant backdrop and banner, Mich Davis and Lucy Freeman for logistical and vibrational support, Paul Kmetco from Sight & Sound for the sound, lights and stage and the mayor and all the folks at the Santa Cruz city offices for all their help and support. Native American Recording Artist Tchiya Amet

Guiding Each Other Into Love

As in all our previous 74 One Love Events, here and in Jamaica, we reminded everyone that the Creator has given each of us a personal assignment with the "original instructions." The assignment is our individual lives and the instructions are to teach love and forgiveness. It does not matter what we have done in our past or what has been done to us. It does not matter our economic, social or educational status. It does not matter our political, sexual or religious persuasion. It does not matter whether we are guided to teach the many or the few. We can always claim our God-given destiny as peacemakers. By doing so, we are back on the Beauty Path - returning to the Creator - whom we have never really left. Santa Cruz Reggae Group Love Eternal

Heading Toward the Final Tipping Point

Throughout history, all great healings of human unconsciousness - the advent of democracy, the end of slavery, advancements of rights for all people no matter their color, gender and sexual preference, the end of apartheid, the dismantling of colonial empires, fair labor practices, the political enfranchisement of women, etc. - has never been initiated and propelled forward by the political, social religious or business leaders. It has always begun with a small group of people holding the vision and sharing that vision with more and more people until a "tipping point" was reached in human consciousness and the needed changes were enacted. Eastern Shoshone Wisdom keeper Blue Thunder

The End of War

This has been the same formula that has worked through the ages and will be the one successful in healing the last, but most important, human blindness - war. People will demand that their leaders make peace - not war. Then tremendous resources will be freed up to advance humanity and heal our planet. Join us in moving the species toward that tipping point through your acts of love and forgiveness. As world-famous anthropologist Margaret Mead noted, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has." Bay Area Reggae Recording Group Soul Majestic

Teachers of Love Work With The Power of The Creator's Will

It may be difficult to imagine how the teachers of love - the peacemakers - can possibly prevail over the teachers of fear and separation - who seem so well organized and powerful. However, one key factor must be understood - the peacemakers have the power of the Creator accessible to them as it is the Creator's will that we live in peace and love. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. noted, "Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." South Bay Group Dubwize

Finding Peace Within

We hope the efforts of the peacemakers in Santa Cruz will lead to a city-wide healing manifested in lower crime, drug abuse, domestic violence, etc. However, we must remember that our Creator is not asking any of us to end all wars, all exploitation, all injustice. He is only instructing each of us to walk our own life, our Beauty Path, with love and forgiveness. What the other six million people do is between them and their Creator. The outcome of the planet is the Creator's will. Everyone is a peacemaker. Join us on the Path. Bring healing to the piece of the planet you have been assigned by asking the Creator, "Who are you sending me today to love and forgive?" You have been perfectly prepared to do your part. Just as the healing of the Iroquois nation, catalyzed by a small group of peacemakers, created the seeds of democracy everywhere, so can we continue to plant the seeds of planetary peace.

"WITH Forgiveness" begins today, Sept. 11

We would like to make you aware of a beautiful project that's beginning today. It's something I feel each and every one of us can relate to - forgiveness. Two very special women: Sheri Rosenthal, DPM and Susyn Reeve M.Ed., have created an experience that we can all participate in and learn from. The program is called WITH Forgiveness, an international multi-media project designed to illuminate the path of compassion and unconditional love. There's a reason for launching this project today on September 11th, the 5th anniversary of the tragedy at the World Trade Center. As a country we're still reeling from the impact of this event, and we continue to suffer from deep pain and anger. Now more than ever is it necessary to think about forgiveness and to take action to bring resolution to our hearts both personally and as a nation.

WITH Forgiveness is free. Sign-up now and receive: A WITH Forgiveness flash video and 52 days of forgiveness messages, exercises and affirmations.

Access to a forgiveness forum and resources through www.withforgiveness.com Share this with your family and friends. Create a circle of forgiveness in your community, and in the words of Gandhi, "be the change you wish to see in the world." Join us today.

2006 INTERNATIONAL REGGAE CONFERENCE POSTPONED - ORGANIZERS TO PRESENT PREMIERE REGGAE INDUSTRY GATHERING IN FALL 2007

For Immediate Release (Miami, FL) - The goal of the International Reggae Conference is to bring together members of the reggae entertainment industry for a series of informative and productive networking activities. The tremendous response we have received from all areas of the industry demonstrates the need for such an event to not only take place, but to be successful. As a nonprofit entity, we feel a keen responsibility to our sponsors and peers in the industry to ensure that the inaugural International Reggae Conference be well-planned and well-executed. With this in mind, a joint decision was made by the Board of Directors to postpone the International Reggae Conference until November 2007. The 2006 South Florida Family Reggae Festival will take place as planned.

All monies collected thus far have already been refunded to registrants and exhibitors. If you sent in a registration or exhibitor fee and have not yet been contacted by our office, please call us immediately at 305 436 9084.

This postponement allows us to spend a few more months working with our sponsors and exhibitors to better develop our workshops, panels, and showcases taking into account some of the suggestions we received from artists and media persons. We do not want even one attendee to come away feeling as if their time or money has been wasted. Many of us have been disappointed by conferences and expos that promised to move our industry forward but didn't deliver for a variety of reasons. We will spend the next twelve months securing the panelists and participants necessary to make this event worth your while.

Please continue to check our official website www.ReggaeConference.org for further developments. On behalf of our sponsors and staff, thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you November 5, 2006 at the South Florida Family Reggae Festival, and then again at IRC 2007!

Fans Concerned that Dreadstock on Vallejo, CA is not happening this year

Although their website seems to be collecting vendor money ($600 per booth) and selling Tickets, there is no line-up posted and promoter John Dillinger had this to say on the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival message board:

"the economy in shambles and no real funding or sponsorship to realize festival means this year i am submitting a permit for a 2 day ALL FREE show. there will be no fences, no stage, no nothing just as much soundsystem as we can muster, anyone and everyone invited to come and donate time and vibes and we can make this a real nice casual on the green type vibe with soundsystem playing and people getting together to see the kids finish mural and just be there in spirit."

So there is some confusion, if there are no vendors and it is free, why does www.dreadstock.com solicit vendors and sell tickets? At the time this article goes to print, the Reggae Festival Guide called promoters but on one number the mailbox was full and on the other number, we left a message and have not heard back.

Anybody knowing anything about this event, please contact Kaati by visiting Reggae Festival Guide website (click here).

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Reggae Festival E-Guide
Know the Enemy, Know Yourself
By Curt Byrum

Mirror, Mirror on the wall - who is it that I despise?

Isn't it funny how the behaviors that we despise most in others tend to be the characteristics we possess in ourselves? For example; A person who interrupts during a conversation may be irritating to you. You may become agitated during the conversation and wish to not even talk to this person. However, unknown to you there are several people who think you also are guilty of being an interrupter. Unless the doorway of possibility opens wide enough to bring light into our consciousness, and we begin to see clearly the mirror of truth reflecting these universal realities, we humans may remain blind to our own flaws. The simple fact is that the person who irritates you most, may be most like you. The person may just be reflecting those attributes in you. You may find this hard to swallow. No one wants to be a hypocrite.

Consider the manager who gets under your skin at work. He is so bossy and controlling that your blood pressure raises every time he enters the room. As soon as he leaves the premises you confide in another co-worker your feelings about this "know-it-all". You exclaim, "I know several methods that would improve productivity here at work - if I was the boss I'd manage this place so much better!" Unknown to you, your co-worker is thinking, "but, you are just like our manager".

Throughout the planet religious leaders point their fingers at those that they believe are wrong. Zealous followers quickly join in to help increase the tension hatred brings. Together, they direct they're prayers, energy, and intensions toward the opposing belief system. All the while, unaware that those they hate the most, are only reflecting their own intolerance. These intolerant radicals only serve as reference points for each other. Both claim to have the full truth. Both claim that we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. Neither conscious of the turmoil they bring at the rest of the world's expense. Maybe they are not able to truly love their neighbors, because they do not really know how to love themselves?

There is an ancient saying that we may wish to meditate upon this week. KNOW THE ENEMY, KNOW YOURSELF.

ABOUT REGGAE FESTIVAL E-GUIDE

The weekly E-Guide is a wonderful resource for those who live, love and enjoy reggae and its vibrant culture. It encompasses the food, music and spirituality that define the unique and diverse community. You can expect CD releases and industry news, band tours, Caribbean recipes and travel, inspirational pieces, reggae trivia and of course, upcoming reggae festivals.

For years, the Reggae Festival Guide Magazine received numerous requests for updates on festivals via email, and on May 2, 2004, the webmaster of ReggaeFestivalGuide.com, Kristine Cummins partnered with the magazine (RBA Publishing), and published the first emailed issue of the E-Guide E-Newsletter. Within a few months, the E-Guide went from less than 100 to over 2500 subscribers! [Click here for amount of current subscribers]. In May of 2005, we upgraded the appearance to full color and now, a year later, we're back to free subscriptions and proud to announce our new Editor, Justine Ketola. Click here to email Justine.
