LUNA ANGEL CD Release Party for the Debut Album "Move with Me"
Luna Angel (her birth name) was born in 1981 to a Jamaican mother and a French father in Marin County, California. Luna's family was always involved in music, coming down through many generations, music underlines Luna's heritage. Her uncle Junior Marvin holds the title as lead guitarist for the legendary Bob Marley's Wailers band. Marvin also played a huge part as a mentor in the early stages of her career. Luna flew to Kingston, Jamaica to complete her first recordings with her uncle at the age of sixteen. Therefore, it came as no surprise to her family when Luna aspired to be in the music business as a singer songwriter and musician. Her uncle was a major influence on her professional career choice. At the age of nineteen Luna worked with her first band, named The I-Rise Band. After gaining a few years of experience, Luna moved to the Bay Area to further her ambitions. There she attended the Jazz School in Berkeley. Working with her new five piece professional band, Luna has since opened for numerous large reggae acts those including, Toots and the Maytals, Third World, Buju Banton, Michael Franti, Israel Vibration, Morgan Heritage, Culture. In 2002, Luna performed at California's largest Reggae festival, Reggae on the River. This occasion gave Luna huge exposure and promotion. 'Move With Me', Luna Angel's debut album, features an ensemble of diverse tracks which demonstrates the gifted young artist's remarkable musical versatility. Her premiere effort on her independent label, Mountain Moon Records, is an innovative expression of Reggae, R&B, Dancehall and Hip-Hop. The album reflects the extensive array of Luna's talents not just vocally but also on her rhythm guitar as well as through her songwriting and musical arrangements. She demonstrates the various capabilities of her exquisite sultry vocals on lively tracks like "Lookin Fly" and "Highest Level", and slows the tempo on the melodic rhythms, "Open Your Heart". She takes you on a musical journey to the motherland with the powerful echo of the the Djembe drum as she trods onto "Africa Land". In "Sweet Memories" she delivers a heartfelt song about love and loss over an upbeat track accented with Spanish nylon string guitars. The title track "Move With Me", bears the signature style of her famous uncle Junior Marvin of the legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers Band. On this track Junior adds his classic blues flair to Luna's vibrant sound. She compassionately sings about the injustice and harsh reality that many in our society face in "Position of Mankind". The same emotion is also felt in her song, "Just Can't Bow" (Ghetto Youths), which is a collaborative effort between Luna and her brother Moese. Moese spices up the tune with his ragga style chants which can also be heard on the tracks "Love Me No More" and "Highest Level". Moese, an upcoming dancehall vocalist, has played an instrumental role in Luna's musical career. His efforts are currently focused on laying the final touches on his own debut release. The album is laced with soulful beats that fuse her main influences from reggae to hip- hop and many others along with her uplifting voice. "Move With Me" showcases Luna's unique blend of sound and rhythm which mesmerizes her listeners and audiences. The debut album is an impressive premiere for this young talented musician. Luna Angel will light up the night at Moe's Alley on Thursday, October 13 for her debut album release, "Move With Me" at Moe's Alley, 1535 Commercial Way, Santa Cruz, CA, $8, Doors 9:00pm / Show 10:00pm, 21+. No Nukes! By James Curt Byrum
This week, I would like to give Jah thanks for North Korea. Their government has decided to end it's nuclear weapons program and allow U.N. sanctioned inspections. In exchange, they would like to receive energy, food and security of their own sovereignty. Now, isn't this what we all want? A small, but necessary step towards peace! It is my opinion that the leaders of the world would be respected, and certainly more credible if they also chose to lay down their arms... such as Iran and my own country, the United States. Can you imagine a world where a country like the United States would be an example and take a "No Nuke" stance? Pray brethrens - that the corporate giants would be humbled and peace and unity would be considered the only option. Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer James Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. In addition to being a writer, he is a Respiratory Therapist residing in California. James also has a passion for music of all genres, writes experimental music and is a poet/lyricist. Caribbean Yacht Charters By Richard Romando
The Bahamas and the Virgin Islands are two of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean for yacht charter vacation seekers, particularly during the winter. The Bahamas contain 700 islands covering 150,000 square miles of tropical sea with approximately 5,000 square miles of land. The islands have flat coral formations and some low rounded hills. Each island of The Bahamas has a unique personality. The cosmopolitan Nassau city has duty free shops, golf, museums and restaurants. There are bright, white sand beaches on the island. If you love sea diving, the coast of San Salvador offers challenging and exciting adventure. The Inagua National Park offers the spectacle of nesting flamingos and other exotic wildlife. The Exumas offers a 100-mile-long cruise along a string of pristine cays. The main cruising islands in The Bahamas are: The Abacos Islands, Bimini and the Gulf Stream Islands, the Berry Islands, the Exuma Cays chain, Harbour Island, Eleuthera and Cat Island, the Out-Islands, Grand Bahama, Freeport and Port Lucaya, Nassau and Paradise Island. With more than 40 islands and cays, the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean archipelago are ideal cruising ground, particularly for the honeymooners. They are ideal for yachting and water sports as well. To 60 miles east of Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands comprise of rugged mountain peaks silhouetted against blue Caribbean Sea. The islands have such unusual names as Prickly Pear, Fallen Jerusalem, Great Dog and Pelican Island. Many of these islands are uninhabited and reachable only by boat, idyllic exploration grounds for those who seek solitude. Christopher Columbus discovered the Caribbean islands in 1493, who named them after St. Ursula and her 11,000 virgins slain by the Huns in the 13th century. Honeymooners prefer the Virgin Islands mainly because of their quiet, pristine beaches. The yachts chartered by the honeymooners offer personalized and discreet service, magnificent accommodations and excellent dining. Some couples even prefer to have their weddings aboard the yacht or on the Virgin Islands. Yacht Charters Info provides detailed information about yacht charters, including Caribbean and Mediterranean yacht charters, as well as luxury, crewed, motor, private, and corporate yacht charters.
