JAMAICAN RECIPE
Fried Green Plantains

Ingredients (Serves 4)

* 2 green plantains
* 1 tablespoon salt

Directions

1. Peel plantain by making 2 incisions on opposite sides of the plantain skin.

2. Please save the skin and try not to break it.

3. Lay the plantain on a cutting board & cut the plantain into 1 inch slices in the middle (width, not length - like breaking a banana in 2).

4. Heat skillet filled with just enough oil to cover the 1 inch slices.

5. Fry plantain slices until golden brown on each side.

6. Each slice needs about 30 seconds to cook.

7. Remove them a slice at a time, then place between the plantain skin.

8. Press the plantain to make it flat. Try not to break it up.

9. Place pressed plantain back in skillet & fry till golden brown.

10. Place plantains in a dish layered with napkins so as to drain/soak up the oil.

11. Sprinkle salt to taste.

BAND PROMOTION
Band Websites with Flash Hinder Journalist Productivity?
Marc Gunn

Boy, I really detest how some people do websites. Bands are some of the worst. Seems like any band that wants to look "professional" feels they must create a website using pop-ups and flash. Why? Cuz that's what the Majors do?

I tried to go to a friend's website today to find his email address. He's in a band. "Click here if you have a pop-up stopper." Now is that a stupid way to start a website or what?

So I clicked... dreading the outcome... For the next minute the minute flash loaded... A MINUTE!

Meanwhile, I was enjoying some wonderful music by Angelo Branduardi, a wonderful Italian world folk musician. Then "BLLAAAAARRRR." The frickin flash program was trying to play music that was causing problems with the music I was enjoying... All I wanted was an email address, not a headache!

I find it intriguing. Do you really WANT to alienate journalists?

I publish this newsletter and the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine, and I have to steer clear of Flash websites, because they cause problems. I skip them. NO Band is so good that I'm willing to put up with that crap!

Not to mention Flash websites hinder my ability to review the band. You see, when I start researching a band, I go to their website, copy and paste some info about the band, finish my comments, and voila! There is NO copy and pasting available with Flash. Again, you've cut your opportunities for getting decent reviews in half.

I know you want to take advantage of the cool technology available, but technology is useless unless it is used with intelligence. So seriously folks, lay off the Flash websites!

IN JAH'S NAME WE PRAY
Katrina: Innocent Name, Not Innocent Devastation
James Curt Byrum

In the last issue of the E-Guide we asked you to pray for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and at that time, the levees had not yet breeched and flooded New Orleans. Now, much of the population of the three states bordering the Gulf Coast, are refugees. Indeed, these refugees and those who have lost loved ones, still need our prayers!

I found out Saturday that my family in Shreveport, Louisiana are OK! Praise Jah! Sadly, they describe the scene as "complete devastation". This devastation, that is now being recognized as "the worst natural disaster in American history", will take more than just prayer. It will take love, volunteering, giving, time, and money!

The Coast Guard and National Guard have worked day and night to help save victims of the disaster for which I am grateful. I am also grateful for the numerous countries that have contacted the U.S. with many forms of assistance.

"Red Tape" has delayed mobile and stationary hospitals, many of my medical colleagues including myself as a Respiratory Therapist. Let us pray that bureaucracy gets out of the way.

In addition to all this, let us not forget to pray for the victims of the recent typhoon, "Tilim" in China and "Hurricane Nabi" in Japan.

Much to pray for these days.

Passionate for human rights and politics, bourgeoning writer James Curt Byrum keeps his readers abreast of current news events. In addition to being a writer, he is a Respiratory Therapist residing in California. James also has a passion for music of all genres, writes experimental music and is a poet/lyricist. REGGAE BIZ MARKETING
The New Branding Awareness - A Value Based Concept
By Mari-Lyn Hudson

The new branding awareness is about when you take ownership of a commodity, a special talent, concept or product. What is it that you stand for? What you stand for is an experience that your customers feel from you. Don't be Shy

When it becomes for you to take a stand, you cannot be shy about it, you need to back it up totally, no matter what other people think of you, say about you, you need to promote it and be it.

Your brand needs to be value-based, like giving extra WOW customer service and being good corporate citizens will build brand equity, the end result will lead to more sales. The good feeling experiences you provide, is what will count for the customer to buy from you. Did you know that 72% of North Americans prefer to buy form value-based companies?

Developing your brand starts with you, from the inside out. The first step in branding you is learning to be who you are and if you don't like who you are then you need change your attitude. If you are losing customers and you don't know why, ask them. You may discover some great feedback. What's your attitude like?

Do you go to work with it's an exciting new day! Do you rejoice in it and give thanks for your new day? Or do you start the day with oh, it's Monday or it's just another crummy day. Your attitude or the stand that you take in how you begin the day makes a difference. If people see that you are smiling, friendly and helpful they will pick up on that energy and feel good about you and even perhaps themselves.

A true story of an Actionable act of Branding with a co-worker.. A girlfriend of mine,(we'll call her Connie) was getting upset the other day, saying some people just don't get it. What she was talking about was the lack of compassion people have for each other, whether it was her boss or people in general. Connie said, "She smiles at people in the grocery store, makes idle chit chat when standing in line, and sometimes people just don't respond." A few of us girls discussed this with her, and we all agreed that if we each person would continue to be friendly, like her, that soon everyone around us will become more friendly. All it takes is one person, who is willing to Pass it Forward can and will make a difference for someone else.

For example, Connie just found out about a co-worker that was in the hospital and went to visit him. (we'll call him Brent) It turns out that Brent has prostate cancer and was given not long to live. Connie asked, Brent what would help him be more comfortable? Brent said "An X-Box would help him pass the time."

Connie, went to her boss the sales manager and asked him if the company would buy him an XBox? Her sales manager said, NO. She was stunned, by his answer. Connie thought that he was not being very compassionate and not getting it. After all, Brent has been working for the company for eight years. She pursued the matter and contacted the Head Office, and talked to someone in HR. Connie, asked if something like this could be done for Brent? The Head Office, wasn't aware of this employee and his condition as said, absolutely YES, do it.

This simple little story an act of Branding of paying it forward, tells of how a simple concern will build your presence or brand. Your customers, employees need to feel this in your presence. Connie's Brand or Presence is that you feel genuinely cared for around her. For as long as I have known Connie, she truly helps her customers above and beyond her job description.
